FAQs

How do we book the bus?

Please contact Andrew at secretary@cvct.org.uk

Who Can Book the Bus?

Recognised and informal groups from Glencairn, Moniaive, Dunscore and Tynron. We ask groups wishing to book the bus to complete a simple one-off Affiliation Form.

Can children travel on the bus?

Yes. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Our drivers are responsible for driving the bus they are not child minders. We will do our best to accommodate child seats/boosters where appropriate, but do not provide them.

How Many Can You Take?

The bus seats up to 16 people (plus the driver). It can accommodate wheelchairs users but, depending on the size, this can involve the removal of up to three ordinary seats per wheelchair. Because of this we ask organisations to notify us in advance of any wheelchair users.

Who can go on excursions?

Anyone. We pick up in Moniaive, Dunscore and places in between. We will also pick up passengers en-route to destinations e.g Penpont and Thornhill if travelling north.

What scheduled service do you operate?

We operate a regular fortnightly Thursday service to Castle Douglas. The service runs to a timetable leaving Moniaive at 11:15am picking up at Kirkland, Wallaceton, Dunscore, Newtonairds and Shawhead (and places in between). The return journey leaves Castle Douglas at 3.05pm. By request we will drop off and pick up at Threave Gardens. The return fare is £3.50, free to those with concession passes. With about 3 hours in Castle Douglas this service is ideal for those wishing to shop and have lunch.

Do passengers need to wear seat belts?

Yes, it is a legal requirement.

Can I book the bus and drive it myself?

No. We undertake to provide a trained driver. This ensures your safety, protects the condition of the vehicle and is a requirement of our permits, licences and insurance.

My family and I want to go to a wedding in Edinburgh . Can you help?

No, we cannot take such bookings.

Can I book the bus to help me move a fridge-freezer?

Again, No. Sorry.

Who pays your drivers?

Our drivers, Committee and Office Bearers and Trustees are all volunteers. They are not paid and do not expect, or accept, ‘tips’. What you pay goes directly towards the running costs of the vehicle and our (very small) operating costs. We are a registered charity and welcome any donations to our operating costs.
