About us.

we run a fully accessible minibus for the benefit of the parishes of Glencairn, Dunscore and Tyron in Dumfries and Galloway.

Our charity

CVCT is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers, and a charity registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

CVCT was founded in 2003. It grew out of Glencairn Community Transport, started in 2001 using a borrowed bus. The organisation subsequently became CVCT when it was able to buy its own bus. The current bus is our second vehicle.

The change of name to Cairn Valley Community Transport reflected the inclusion of Dunscore, as well as Glencairn, in the area served. In 2019 we further expanded our area of benefit to include Tynron.

More info.

CVCT operates within a legal framework set out in the 1985 Transport Act. Our function is to provide a transport service to meet the needs of people in Glencairn, Dunscore and Tynron that, by reason of disability, poverty, social or economic circumstances are not being met by commercial transport providers. We are not allowed to compete with commercial bus and taxi operators.

CVCT is a member of The Community Transport Association, the national body championing the cause of accessible, inclusive transport. The association represents and supports local community transport groups like CVCT.

Our Service

We run day trips throughout the year to places of interest in southern Scotland and northern England.

We also run a scheduled bus service from Moniaive and Dunscore to Castle Douglas and a hire service for affiliated community groups
